it has been a considerably long time since i last updated my blog so here i am!

besides lh and hl who i have managed to catch online, and jj who i've exchanged emails with, i haven't got to talk to the rest of you darlings. so i think i should just let u guys know that i'm good :

I'M GOOD.

and for once, this does not only pertain to my mental health (a year ago, it would be the reverse) because *drum roll*...

i bought a SLOW COOKER!

hehehe. before u let your eyes roll too much, i must explain myself.
it means that i get to have soup whenever i want! which means less oily shanghai food (trust me, the fried rice glistens) and korean food (which IS healthy but had too much of)!

i boiled corn, pork ribs and carrot soup today and shared it with shanghai-mistress SZ, and she gave RAVING comments. weeha. zy the cook is back! (swings the ladle with gusto)

And now i'm boiling ching teng, but i have a problem *furrowed brows* :

the dates, lotus seeds and gingko nuts are floating. i hope the convection really moves the flavour around. It tastes like plain water now. hmmph. but oh well, i slow-cooked it for only 20 min so i guess i'll be more patient. *sits for a second and bounces over to test it again*

Everything is good here. The weather cooled down dramatically. Like hotter-than-sg one day and cool-like-november the next day. hmm. weird but i guess its for the better. I prefer consistent weather though (even if it means scorching hot back in good ol' sg), i get sick easily *scowl*.

Well for those like oah ginj nil sinned who might be concerned with the modules i am taking :

Ancient poetry and prose studies (this is a very unprofessional translation)
Lv Xun studies
Ancient Chinese lit history
Modern Chinese lit history
Modern Chinese Linguistics
Introduction to Psychology
Food and Culture
Chinese Language
and

Guided Readings for Aesthetic Classics
haha. the last one's a bit in-ur-head. i read Plato's Republic Book X last week and started on Aristotle's Poetics today. Its quite gross i can assure u but what is grosser is i actually enjoyed it. haha. Even when the teacher teaches in substandard english and shifts suddenly to chinese. I think i have something for philo which is quite unhealthy i think.

But Plato is quite cool. I like the way he puts forth his argument while Aris should seriously go easy on length.

Food and culture isn't what you think it is, although the Harvard graduate teacher claims it was one of his more popular courses in Georgetown but he really isn't a convincing speaker. But contrary to my expectations of sharing sushi and passing curry around during class, i have to read like 30 pages of highly intensive readings. Its so..... Oxford (:P dele). Plus its english. (GASP!) I haven't read english texts in such a long time, its almost foreign to me.

Doesn't help that one of the representative sentences looks like this :

" In this agrarian system (India caste system), shares in the agrarian product were the dominant vehicle for indicating simultaneously the relationship of subordination and domination between patrons and clients, as well as the bonds of cooperation and solidarity between them. " - "Gastro-politics In Hindu South Asia" by Arjun Appadurai

And words like "taxonomic", "imbuing" , "rubric" ???

It almost guarantees i win jb at our next literati deathmatch. Esp since i found out 'iambic' IS a word , thanks to good ol' Aris.

So goodbye to sushi and curry, and hello to big words. Sigh. This term is much more taxing compared to the last two, just looking at the number of books i had to buy/borrow by the 3rd week :

Ok, 3 or 4 of them are for leisure reading but the REST?! WHY.
But cos i'm dweebie in shanghai, i actually enjoy reading , haha so i'm not complaining, i'm just TELLING u how much i have to read. Hurhur.
Everyone calls me a nerd nowadays. Or a hermit. Cos i do nothing but read when i'm in the hostel, i don't even go to MSN much cos i don't see much point in doing so (ml doesn't talk to me even tho she CLAIMS she is "ONLINE" and unBUSY and unAWAY and unON-THE-PHONE and unBE-RIGHT-BACK, *WAILS*).

I'm going to Hainan Island in October! Hurray! Do some relative-visiting and head to Sanya which is a nice beach resort kinda tourism spot. 2 more weeks! hehe. Ooh and haagen dazs mooncakes are seriously overpriced, a whopping 17.20 SGD for like a moon-cake sized ice cream coated in handcrafted chocalate coating (and a mango sherbet ball in the center to mimick the yolk). DUN BUY THEM.

My baby haohao received my bday present! Hurray! and his mum sent me this heart-wrenching, kiddy-tone sms which got me hopping in glee. Ok i dun hop, tts why im fat, but u get the idea. haha. I'll get to see him in Nov i hope, for the 2nd anniversary of Cerecare.

Nothing much more to say actually, just that everything is normal and stable for now. But as i was telling jj, i shan't curse the luck by saying it, but i am thankful really for daisies and dates, daffodils and ducks (not donald tho, lol).

Oh as for Diet. i dun like it much. haha. So i dun do it much. but i have been running and my left knee hurts like shit today. sucks. lala. shan't ruin my happy blogging mood with this *slaps the knee* imbecilic body part.

bye!
